Professional Invoice Guide for Pakistani Freelancers and Small Businesses
Pakistani freelancers and small businesses often underestimate the importance of professional invoicing. A proper invoice protects you legally, speeds up payment and builds client trust.
What Pakistani Invoices Must Include
- Your Full Name or Business Name
- Your NTN (National Tax Number) — if registered with FBR
- Your CNIC / Business Registration Number
- Client Name and Address
- Invoice Date and Due Date
- Itemized Services with PKR amounts
- GST/Sales Tax — 17% if you are GST registered
- Bank Account Details — for HBL, MCB, Meezan, etc.
Understanding GST for Pakistani Businesses
In Pakistan, the standard GST (General Sales Tax) rate is 17%. If your annual turnover exceeds PKR 10 million, you must register for GST with FBR and charge GST on your invoices. Freelancers under this threshold are generally not required to charge GST.
For IT and software services exported to foreign clients, a 0% GST rate applies (zero-rated). This means you do not charge GST to international clients — a major advantage for Pakistani IT freelancers.
Pakistani Freelancers — International Invoicing
When billing international clients (US, UK, UAE, Australia), use USD, GBP or AED as currency. Include your bank IBAN and SWIFT code for international wire transfers. For platforms like Upwork or Fiverr, the platform handles invoicing automatically.
For direct client work, create a professional USD invoice using our free Invoice Generator and send as PDF. Include your bank details for receiving payment via Wise, Payoneer or direct wire transfer.
Recommended Pakistani Bank for Freelancers
For receiving international payments, Meezan Bank and HBL offer good USD account options. Payoneer and Wise are popular for freelancers as they offer fast local PKR conversion with competitive rates.
