How to Create a WiFi QR Code — Let Guests Connect Without Password Sharing
📅 January 2025⏱ 3 min read✍️ Black Cat Artist Studio
WiFi QR codes are one of the most practical uses of QR technology. Guests scan once — they are connected. No password needed, no awkward typing on small keyboards.
How WiFi QR Codes Work
A WiFi QR code contains your network information in a special format: WIFI:T:WPA;S:NetworkName;P:Password;;. When a smartphone camera scans this code, it automatically offers to connect to your WiFi — no manual typing needed.
Create Your WiFi QR Code — Step by Step
- Go to our free QR Code Generator
- Select WiFi Network from the QR Code Type dropdown
- In the content field, enter:
WIFI:T:WPA;S:YourNetworkName;P:YourPassword;; - Replace YourNetworkName with your exact WiFi SSID
- Replace YourPassword with your WiFi password
- Choose a color that matches your brand
- Click Generate QR Code
- Download as PNG or SVG and print
Where to Place Your WiFi QR Code
- Restaurants/Cafes — On tables, menu cards, front counter
- Hotels — Room key card, welcome booklet, bedside table
- Offices — Reception desk, meeting rooms, visitor badge
- Shops — Checkout counter, dressing rooms
- Events — Registration desk, event programs
Security Tips
Use a separate guest WiFi network (most routers support this) so guests cannot access your main network devices. Change your guest WiFi password periodically and regenerate the QR code. For extra security, use WPA2 encryption — never open networks.
